KNOXVILLE KNOCKOUT: Stewart & CJB Put on Strong Show at Knoxville
Weekend doubleheader set for Wisconsin and Iowa
CARLISLE, PA. - June 17, 2019 - Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway is a special place for sprint car drivers. Running well there is a ticket to immortality in the month of August. If this past weekend is any indication of things to come, CJB Motorsports and driver Shane Stewart may very well be adding their names to a select few later this summer.
The Brownells Big Guns Bash represented the only chance for World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series drivers and teams to take to the half-mile oval located on the premises of the Marion County Fairgrounds before the famed Knoxville Nationals later this summer. The opening night was on Friday, June 14th. Stewart timed in 4th, finished 2nd in the heat race, 2nd in the dash and 3rd in the feature. The following night, Stewart set quick time, won his heat race, finished 7th in the dash and 8th in the feature.
"The team was happy about our Knoxville trip," said Stewart, pilot of the #5 Killer Instinct Crossbows , Weikert's Livestock, Ecynbro Trucking, Nyce, Crete and Landis Block and Concrete, C&S Lawn & Landscape machine. "We showed that our speed is where it needs to be in qualifying, which will be huge come August. Our finishes this weekend were not that bad either. Drawing the eight (in the dash draw) on Saturday after the rain (delay) was difficult to overcome in the feature but we still had a good finish."
The month of June rolls on as the Outlaws stay in the upper mid-west. On Saturday, June 22nd, the tour will head to Beaver Dam (Wis.) Raceway for the Jim "JB" Boyd Memorial presented by Karavan Trailers. The following night, Dubuque (Iowa) Speedway will present the next challenge for the stars and cars of the, 'Greatest Show on Dirt.'
"Beaver Dam is going to be a tough race for me but I know our buddy Jason (Johnson) will be watching and keeping us all all safe," Stewart said, referencing the loss of fellow driver Jason Johnson in an accident at the track in 2018. "I have had some good runs there in the past and this year the ante will be a little higher since it pays more to win. I have never been to Dubuque so that will be fun trying to get that track figured out. I have watched videos and looked online. The track looks really wide so it should produce a good race for everyone."
