MEMORIAL DAY RUNNER: CJB Motorsports Takes on Charlotte & Lawrenceburg
Music City Outlaw Nationals on on tap next in Nashville
CARLISLE, PA. - May 28, 2019 - Memorial Day is a time for remembrance and racing. While many race fans will associate this weekend with Monaco or Indy, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series has become a fixture at the the Dirt Track at Charlotte near Concord, N.C. during this same stretch. 2019 saw a typical one night stop expand into a two day event at the 4/10th's of a mile on the grounds on the famed Charlotte Motor Speedway.
CJB Motorsports and Shane Stewart timed in 21st on the opening night, which as held on Friday, May 24th. A 7th place finish in his heat race meant that Stewart had to race his way into the feature via the Last Chance Showdown. Once in the feature, Stewart started 21st and finished 18th.
The following night, Stewart timed in 22nd but charged from 8th to 3rd in a thrilling heat race. In the feature, the team went from 13th to 12th.
"Charlotte was a mess for some reason," said Shane Stewart, pilot of the #5 Killer Instinct Crossbows , Weikert's Livestock, Ecynbro Trucking, Nyce, Crete and Landis Block and Concrete, C&S Lawn & Landscape machine. "We are still battling some engine stuff. When you switch engine builders, it takes a minute to figure out what the engines like in the slick. I felt like we just spun all weekend."
On Memorial Day itself, the team made the journey to Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway for an exciting event.
Stewart and the #5 machine timed in 1st overall, won his heat race, finished 4th in the dash and had the same result in the feature.
"Rebounded nicely with a solid top-5 finish at Lawrenceburg," Stewart said. "Felt we had a shot and a good car from time trials on."
May ends and June begins on the Outlaw calendar with the first ever Music City Outlaw Nationals. The famed Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in Tennessee has been covered in dirt and looks to put on a thrilling show Friday, May 31st and Saturday, June 1st.
"I am really excited to get to Nashville," Stewart said. "It's a new market that we haven't been in and I think the fans are really going to like what the see."
