ROLLER COASTER: CJB & Stewart Stout to Open 2019
Season kicks off with strong finishes and a win as team heads for Texas
CARLISLE, PA. - February 11, 2019 - Ask any racer competing for a championship and they will tell you that a strong start to a season is key for any title hopes. The good news for Shane Stewart and the CJB Motorsports team is that they can check this particular item off their 2019 list.
The Carlisle, Pennsylvania based team rolled south to Florida for seven nights worth of racing with the Ollies Bargin Outlets All Star Circuit of Champions and the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. Bubba Raceway Park was up first with three nights of action, beginning on January 31st. On their first night together, Stewart and the CJB team registered a 2nd place finish. The following two nights yielded finishes of 15th & 18th.
"We were really good on the first night," said Shane Stewart, pilot of the #5 GoMuddy.com, Big Game Tree Stands, Weikert's Livestock, Ecynbro Trucking, Nyce, Crete and Landis Block and Concrete, C&S Lawn & Landscape machine. "That was the only night that the track really got slick. The following two nights were a bit stickier and we struggled in qualifying."
On Wednesday, February 6th, the team made their way to Volusia Speedway Park near Barberville for two more nights of All Star action. On the opening night, Stewart tamed the speedy half-mile oval for his first win of the season and first in the CJB #5. The following night, the team grabbed a 6th place finish after starting the A feature in 18th.

"Getting that first win early really shows that the #5 car is ready to go and validates all of the hard work the guys put in over the winter," Stewart said. "Once again, the track slicked off on that night and we're really pretty good in those conditions. I think we'll see that a lot more throughout the season so that has us excited. The next night, we struggled in qualifying as the track stayed hooked up and wet."
With five nights of All Star action in the books, it was time to begin the 2019 World of Outlaws season. On the opening night for the 'Greatest Show on Dirt,' Stewart notched a runner up finish once again and followed that up with a 19th place finish the following night. Another scheduled night of racing with the Outlaws, scheduled for Sunday, February 10th, was washed away by rain.
"We were lucky to get through our heat race and that put us in the dash," Stewart said. "Barry (Jackson) and I talk about that a lot. Being in the dash is the key with the Outlaw races. We struggled again the following night. All in all, though, we felt like Florida was a successful trip."
The CJB crew will return to action on Friday, February 22nd at Cotton Bowl Speedway near Paige, Texas before moving over to Kilgore and the LoneStar Speedway the following night. CJB scored the win at Cottonbowl in 2018.
"Barry mentioned to me that David (Gravel) and I have similar driving styles which gives him some confidence in that he doesn't have to be reinvent the wheel when it comes to getting me comfortable in the car," Stewart said. "That being said, I look forward to going to Paige since the CJB car won there last year. I've had some success in the 360's & 410's at Kilgore. It can be hard to get ahold of but it will be fun."
