TOP-10 IN DODGE: CJB Motorsports Does the Kansas Double Take and Heads for Pennsylvania
Tuscarora 50 weekend means big pay day and prestige for World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cars
CARLISLE, PA. - October 15, 2018 - A mid-October run through the state of Kansas yielded a top-10 finish for CJB Motorsports.
The team, in competing with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, took on the Lakeside Speedway near Kansas City on Friday, October 19th. Gravel timed in 15th, finished 5th in his heat race and lined up for the feature in 15th.
“Got trapped in time trials,” said Gravel, driver of the GoMuddy.com, Big Game Treestands, J.R.C Transportation, Nyce, Crete & Landis Block & Concrete #5. “It’s been something we’ve struggled with all season. It’s so important in these events to time in well. We only made up one spot on the track for the feature, so we did want a better night.”
Overnight, the team traveled from eastern Kansas to the western side of the state. Dodge City has a history of hosting Outlaws and, in 2018, they winged variety made their way to the 3/8th’s mile oval for the Boot Hill Showdown. Gravel timed in 14th quick at the event, finished 5th in his heat race and started 14th in the feature.
“The night at Dodge City started a lot like Lakeside,” Gravel explained. “Luckily, we made up a enough spots in the feature to score a 10th place finish. The temperatures were cool both nights so our Kistler engines ran really well.”
The tour now heads back to the east coast to begin the final two weekends of the season. Up first is the Nittany Showdown and the $51,000-to-win Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway. Gravel and the team are looking forward to racing on the fast, half-mile oval that is near their home base.
“It’s a bit of a blessing that rain caused the delay in this race,” commented Gravel. “We don’t get a ton of big pay day races so we’re really excited. Port (Royal) is a big, wide track and plays to our strengths. There will be a lot of good cars, for sure. We’re looking forward to running it and making a charge at the front.”
